Hello:
I have an existing project: VIP (Velocity Interactive Portal)
I am trying to create a new kanban board and have it be part of the above (existing) project. However, when I attempt to create a new board and add to the project, the project is not found. See attached screenshots. I can't create a new kanban either and use the same project name as it says it is already in use, but Jira will not find the project when I attempt to add it to an existing project.
I've checked the project settings and there does not seem to be anything that would prevent me from creating / adding a board (frankly there are zero settings related to this).
Please help. Thanks, Brendon
Hello @Brendon Lehman
Welcome to the community.
Is the VIP project a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project?
Were you able to select "VIP (Velocity Interactive Portal)" from the pull down field for Projects when trying to create the new board?
Can you show us the View All Projects page showing the VIP project in the list?
I created a new project in my environment and named it
VIP (Velocity Interactive Portal)
If I type that text into the Create Board > Project pull down field and exit the field then I get the same message you see. If I instead pull down the field and select the project then I see this.
You need to select the value from the list, not just type it in.
Additionally, if the project is a Team Managed project, those projects may not appear in the Project list for selection. You would have to create a Saved Filter that retrieves the issues from the Team Managed project and created the board based on the Saved Filter. Also note that you can't select a Team Managed project as the Location for a manually created board.
The VIP project is team-managed project - I am the lead. See screenshot.
Screenshot shows all projects that shows the VIP listed.

Hello @Brendon Lehman
When trying to create the new board were you typing in the project name? Did you get a list of possible matching projects and were you able to select "VIP (Velocity Interactive Portal)" from the pull down field for Projects?

Well, I can't seem to create a board under the project. I can't find the option now. When I click, 'create' -- all I'm getting are options under the project:

When I click, create 'project' > 'kanban' > I add the details... when I attempt to use VIP as the 'key' I get the following error:

Lastly, I can create an entire new "software project" named VIP Kanban but there is no linkage to the existing VIP project...

Hello @Brendon Lehman
Ah, I have all the pieces now. Sorry this took so long.
Team Managed projects support only one board that will show up as the board in the navigation pane for that project.
You can manually create more boards (from the View All Boards screen at https://<yourURL>/jira/boards). However...
1. You have to make the board based on an Existing Saved Filter. You can't make the board based on an Existing Project because the dialog will not allow you to select a Team Managed Software project. So, create a Saved Filter for the issues in the Team Managed project, then manually create the board based on the Saved Filter.
2. You will not be able to set the Location (in the Create Board dialog) to the Team Managed project, because currently they support only the original board being "attached" to the project.
3. Note that there are some different behaviors and functionality between boards created manually and boards created automatically for Team Managed projects. You may want to review this post and the associated comments.

OK, thanks for all of the guidance and detail @Trudy Claspill
I'll try and create something manually and see where I get.
It's annoying that you can't create more than one board in a team managed project, but I digress.
Thanks!

There is a change request to support multiple boards for Team Managed projects.

Hello @Brendon Lehman
What level of permissions do you have in Jira? Could it be possible that you dont have permissions to that project?
