To give the users a pointer to external information about the project. Most of us use it to point to the project overview documents in Confluence.

Now it makes sense to me ... but oh boy that somehow sucks at the same time
on first glance it looked like "the Custom URL Field" i searched for
Yeah, that needs to happen. We could use a custom URL without the rewrite workarounds that don't really solve the problem.
