Status fields have icons in them for some users in filters but not all users

Neil OHara August 27, 2024

While someone was presenting their screen I saw their status fields had extra icon characters in them but mine do not, we are hitting the same server and project. He was on chrome, I was on Firefox but we both tried edge and he had them and I didn't.

we went into profile settings to see and we were configured identically.
attached are his and mine but with data fuzzed out. we validated it was the Status field and not some variant.

They look cool so I want them too

Another coworker found the solution when I mentioned it.

Accessibility options

Patterns on issue statuses

Add unique patterns to issue statuses to distinguish between them more easily

Oh.. so this is where it was hiding.. I never though that it would be under Accessibility but indeed it is there in the documentation..

Hi @Neil OHara

That does not seem to be Jira OOTB feature (especially in Jira 9.4). I think that it must be added by third party plugin that you have installed on this instance and your friend my be using (or have access to and you do not). I am seeing on the first screenshot some additional buttons so this might be a clue however not sure which plugin may be adding this.

I suggest to review th list of plugins (if you are an admin) if not ask your admin to give you a list of which are installed.

Thanks but..  the screenshot showing buttons is essentially the same, it's just how I snipped it. and that he prefers different other filed or order of them but we validated we were using the Status field.

I realize I didn't state this before

But we are hitting the same server and instance and project even.  Even though I fuzzed them out for security, it was even the exact same query string

project = "Myproject" AND Status != Closed AND issuetype = "External Defect"

I used to run our Jira as an admin so I do understand server side plugins and features even if I can't see what is truly enabled, but I would expect all users to see the same result.

🤷‍♂️
