Sprints

Carr Oduro March 4, 2019

I have one project and two different scrum boards.

1. Since they are two different board will the Sprint sequence be affected? That is can I have Board A - Sprint 1, Sprint 2, Sprint 3, Sprint 4

Board B - Sprint 1, Sprint 2, Sprint 3, Sprint 4

2. Can the Sprint names be different? Right now they are the same name on two different boards even though the board names are different.

3. Not sure if this might be related to question 1, but Board B went from Sprint 1 to 6 and skipped to Sprint 8. Board A went through  Sprints 1-8.  What happened to Board B?

Thanks

Hi Carr,

Not only that they can be different, it is actually recommended as best practice to name your sprints according to the projects they are in (like ABC Sprint 1), assuming that you have a sprint inside one project only.

Using general names like Sprint 1 can lead to confusion as the sprint can become accidentally used in another board and (worst case scenario) can be deleted by a product owner there that thinks they are empty when in fact they contain issues from other projects and those issues are filtered out by the board's filter. Thanks Claudiu. It is one Project but two different boards with different names. I'm not sure why each sprint is using the same name. I will go ahead and change it because yes it is confusing.

Hi Carr,

I am not on the Jira team, but I will try to help.

Using one project with multiple boards and sprints can get a little complicated.

Typically I've seen that the sequence of sprints is controlled by the dates you set on the sprints when you are viewing the Backlog.  So the Sprints should be independant of the Boards.

However, once you're on a board, you should be able to select which Active Sprints display on that Board.  There is usually a drop-down at the top where you can select them.

I hope that helps!

Thanks Martyn. That is what I thought, that it was independent and confused as to how it skipped Sprint 7 and went to Sprint 8.  Where would I see the drop down?

Hi Carr,

the drop-down should be at the top of the Board, near the top-left.  It will be to the right of search bar, avatars, etc.

Thank you:)
