Send message to Teams Channel when issue status changed to Done

Josh Goedert

Hello. I am trying to set up automation to send a message to a Teams channel when an issue in a Sprint is moved to done. I thought I had it set right, but it seemed to only work for issues that lived on the board the Sprint is on. For example, when WD-XXX moved to Done, a message was sent. But when PSWEB-XXX was moved to done. The rule did not run. I feel like its something simple, but can't put my finger on it.

Hi @Josh Goedert

For a question like this, please post an image of your complete automation rule, images of any relevant actions / conditions / branches, an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution, and explain what is not working as expected.  Those will provide context for the community to offer ideas.  Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Thanks, Josh.

What is the scope of this rule: one single project, multiple-project, or global?

I suspect it is single project, and even though your sprint board apparently spans multiple projects, the rule cannot "see" the other issues.  If you look at the audit log for the rule I expect it is not triggered for issue outside of the project.

Please work with your Jira site admin to move the rule, or change its scope, to be for the specific projects covered by that sprint's board.

It is a single scope. I will get with them to change that. Thank you so much!

Hi @Josh Goedert :)

An alternative method is to setup an "Incoming Webhook" in the MS Teams channel under the connectors, then in the specific Jira project use the automation to "Send Microsoft Teams message" to the webhook's URL.

You can set up your automation like this, just change the trigger for status changed = Done

Hope it helps :)

Thanks for the response. I do have something similar setup. But not everything on the Sprint triggers the rule it seems.image.png
