Can you Create a Customized "tag" field like label

Labels in JIRA is a "tag" field where it becomes a link so that users can select the same field value and they are grouped (and can be searched on).  Is there a way to create a new customized field with this type of functionality?

@Tony Costello Yes you can create custom field of type Labels and name it as per your requirement.

Actually, as I've read the question, Jira already does that.

If you create a labels field (bear in mind there's already one there by default), then put things in it, then clicking on the name of a label in the issue view takes you to the issue-navigator with a search for "labels = <what you clicked on>" displayed...
