Postponing issues in Jira - reopen on linked issue

Mark January 30, 2020

We want to be able to automate some of our workflows by postponing issues until other linked issues are completed.

It would be useful that such issues can be transitioned to a 'Postponed' status, but then automatically reactivated (to 'To Do') when its linked issue is 'Closed'.

Whilst we have Automation for Jira, getting the linked issue to reactivate is problematic. Any thought on how to automate this?

Mark, I’m not where I can test something out myself but this should be possible. Here is a similar post you might look at - Auto-Transition-of-issues-when-the-linked-issue-status-changes

I am assuming your requirements are something like this:

  • let’s say you have issue A and issue B...
  • you want A to move to Postponed when issue B is linked. A4J can do this.
  • once B moves to Done you want A to move to To Do

I believe this should be achievable with A4J.
