I want to overlay my Jira (gantt chart) plan with a view of resources allocated so that management can see in an easy one page where my resources are being used.  How can I do this in an easy visual?

Hey there @Chantelle Skinner , and welcome!

Even knowing you want to have a Gantt Chart, and an easy view of resources being used, there's still some gaps in understanding exactly what you're after, which makes for a hard question to answer. That said, if I or others are able to know more, I think there's a much better chance of getting you an answer that you'd value. With that said...here are some follow up questions and comments in response to your post...

  • Things that would be helpful to know...
    • When you say "Resources", this can mean a lot of things, to a lot of people. So, what specific Resources are you concerned with knowing insights on? Are they machine resources, personnel resources, etc. etc. etc...
    • What instance type are you on? Is it Data Center? Is it Cloud? There are definite differences in instance types.
    • Are you open to any 3rd Party Apps that can be found in the Atlassian Marketplace? If so, there's a lot of really great options that may work for what you're after. For instance, Structure Gantt Charts by Tempo is awesome and a great value add for my  Stakeholders as far as a robust Gantt visualization.
    • When you're talking about a Gantt Chart specifically in the context of what is enabled with the turn-key Jira Project through use of Jira "Plans", your options are going to be limited to fairly straightforward Gantt Chart. You can in most cases incorporate/overlay more data into the WBS for the Gantt Chart, but not as much for what is displayed on the Gantt chart.
  • If you haven't used any of the Jira Dashboard Gadgets, you may want to look into those also. In most cases regardless of the 3rd Party Apps you use from the Atlassian Marketplace, you can visualize a lot of the work being tracked and managed within Jira there. It seems like also many of the Marketplace Apps also come with their own Gadget to use as well.

Alrighty, I hope this helps you get the answer you're after :). Have a great rest of your year!!
