Original story points Jira Portfolio

Hi, 

In portfolio there is a field that you can add "Original Story points". 
What is the actual use for this field? 

Because this field is not included in Jira, so if you add SP in that field in Portfolio, this does not map with Jira itself? 

Or am I thinking in the wrong direction?

Does not help, as there are change in new Portfolio Plan view.
