Moving individual projects from one jira instance to another jira instance.

David L. Ledford, Jr. October 4, 2016

What is the most efficient way to move single or multiple projects from one JIRA instance to another JIRA instance??  Does it always require working with a full backup of the source system or can you export and import individual projects?? Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks!

There is no single project export, so yes, you generally need to work with the full export.

Combine the built-in project import with an add-on from Botron or Awnba, and the process, although still lengthy, is relatively straightforward.

If you have both instances running at the same time you can create a application link between them, set up a slightly different project key on the second server, and migrate the issues from one to the other. About setting up screenschemes and permissions schemes, this still have to be done manually.
