Macros in Jira Automation

René van Esch July 15, 2022

Hi,

is it possible to use macros in a Jira automation rule?

E.g. adding

{panel}
Some text
{panel}

to the description field on ticket creation works. But

{expand}

Some text

{expand}

doesn't work.

Hi @René van Esch

In my experience, this does not work consistently for the macros.  You may need to experiment with the different macros to learn which ones work or do not.

And to save you time, do not assume that what Jira indicates is in the field actually works to create a macro.  For example, I experimented using both the audit log and REST API calls to write the text representation that was making macros work in fields like Description.  But they rarely worked as macros when I used the exact same text.  I hypothesize that Jira has other meta data making the macros work and that is never exposed as text from the field to users.

Kind regards,
Bill
