Linking issues from a CSV import

Rudolph Dreyer January 15, 2024

Hi all,

I've ran into a problem showing the relationship between issues. I'm not referring to Parent, Child relationship, but to "Relates" & "Blocks" relationship.

General information:

  1. My Import is a CSV extract from an existing JIRA project that we're migrating.
  2. I have not changed any of the Issue IDs that I've received, because they come directly from a JIRA system an are unique.
  3. This means the relevant fields that I have that's unique: Issue ID, Issue Type, Outward issue link (Blocks), Inward issue link (Relates).
  4. Here is a sample of the error message that i receive for the related issues:

Unable to link issue from 13379 to CTC-159 with link named 'Relates': Cannot find imported issue key for external id 'CTC-159'
Unable to link issue from 12893 to CTC-404 with link named 'Relates': Cannot find imported issue key for external id 'CTC-404'

Hi @Rudolph Dreyer

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

please follow the below steps to import issue links through CSV file -

  • Navigate to system -> External system import -> CSV
  • prepare a CSV file as shown below - Trying to link TEST-7 to TEST-9 with link type "relates"

  • map the Jira fields to the fields present in CSV file as shown below -

For more detailed instruction, you can follow this documentation.

Let me know if this helped you.

Hi Teja,

This is really good, thank you.

My problem is I do relates is not one of my field options.

In the CSV extract I have:

  • Inward issue link (Blocks)
  • Outward issue link (Relates)
  • Outward issue link (Blocks)
  • Inward issue link (Relates)

My option for the JIRA field import are the same.

I do not have the "relates" option as in your screenshot.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Rudy
