Jira for a booking system?

william saad July 11, 2015

I am looking for a tool that would support something akin to a room booking system where a limited number of identified resources can be booked for specific times slots, which could be hours or even days. Ideally, All users need to see all bookings so they can make intelligent choices and even contact and liaise with other users to discuss or negotiate the use of a shared resource. Jira seems well adapted to the task with each resource on a different swimlane on a large kanban. A gantt or calendar type view would be a bonus. Are there better solutions to do this? Thanks in advance. Regards. William

Interesting topic, you can utilize the "Created" and "Due Date" which can appear in the Project's Calendar. Components can be used for the "Slot Names" or create your own drop-down custom field.  You can even create a "Cascading Select" for that if  you need. You can then use this ticket for a survey after, just create a number custom field which can be populated upon closing the ticket.

It all depends on the number of rooms but try the JIRA "Simple Calendar" free add on for a calendar view. It is available on the Atlassian Marketplace.https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/ru.mail.jira.plugins.mailrucal

If you do not have too many rooms to manage this might work. We found the calendar very useful for a similar bookings use case. We  use mentions (@) in the comment fields for discussions.
