This feature could be a time saver except it takes very very long to save the data after importing and the widget gets stuck "Saving..." for several minutes though the data looks to have been imported. It ends up being faster to just download a spreadsheet view from Jira and then cut and paste it into another Excel sheet than it is to use the widget, which is unfortunate.

Hi @Tony Clemente ,

Welcome to the community!

Perhaps you can elaborate the question here? Not sure I understand which widget you've mentioned here.

Perhaps you can add some steps to reproduce the behavior where you get stuck on "Saving..." .

Hi @Jehan Bhathena

Thanks, I am not sure if this is more of an Excel issue than a Jira one. When using the "Get Jira Data" option from Excel:

both online and on my desktop, the import seems to get stuck on "saving..." if there are more than a few hundred rows to import.

Steps to repro:

  1. Create an Excel spreadsheet
  2. Use the "Get Jira Data" option from the menu (authenticate with Jira)
  3. Select the option to use a Jira "Filter" for Import type from the widget/sidebar
  4. Choose a saved Jira filter to import that contains more than 400 rows (I do not have an exact number for you here) smaller imports (approx 100 rows) seem to work fine.
  5. Click the "Get Data Now" button

At the bottom of the sidebar you will get feedback as the import queues up, processes then saves. Ex:

When the issue occurs the status there stays at "saving..." and seems to hang there. The sidebar/widget is greyed out and unusable in the workbook at this point.

Desktop information:

  • Mac OS 10.15.6
  • Excel 16.66.1
  • Excel online - browser Chrome  v121.0.6167.85 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Hi @Tony Clemente

It is an issue with the plugin in Excel, I've faced it too quite a few times, what I usually so is:

  • Open Jira in an Incognito Browser session, and click on "Open in Excel"
  • Chose the Desktop option and wait for authentication
  • The New sheet should ask for authentication, and then let you connect to the needed site

You can google to see the past history of complaints for this plugin :-P

One post that might help : https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/Jira-Cloud-for-Excel-Not-Loading/qaq-p/1940988#M663130

If this still doesn't work, I would suggest Clearing your browser cache, and also your PC's temp files(not sure how it works in Mac).
