Jira Automation - Usage Count/Tracking

Ralph Casafrancisco November 10, 2023

When it comes to Jira Automations is there a counter somewhere where we are at in our monthly usage?

I am also wondering if anyone knows what counts as a an automation run. Here are some examples:

1. An automation where the Trigger is on issue creation. The next action is to evaluate if a field has a certain value. If that value is not found and the rest of the automation is not run, does that count towards our monthly limit?

2. An automation that Triggers on Transition. The next action is to evaluate if that Status was moved to Done. If that transition was actually to In Progress then the automation does not run. Does that count toward our monthly limit?

If those quick evaluations count then I may need to rethink how the automations will be designed.

Hello @Ralph Casafrancisco

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You can find the current usage count for Automation under the System Settings > Global Automation > Usage tab.

What counts towards your usage is described in this article:

The two scenarios you described would not be counted towards your usage, because they don't execute any Actions.

Hi @Ralph Casafrancisco -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Adding to Trudy's answer...

There are rule actions which count toward execution usage limits and some which do not.  Please read that article for details...and watch for posts in the automation areas for this community for any more recent changes: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Atlassian-Automation/ct-p/automation

As you rethink your rules, consider how to use different rule triggers and conditions to help to manage usage.

Kind regards,
Bill
