Hi all,
I'm setting up Jira to manage projects executed by multinational teams. I've read about the possibility to set up holiday schemes, but I still have doubts on how to set up my teams correctly.
I want to use functional teams, a these are - as far as I understand - built based on an assigned skill, which can be then grouped into different skill levels within the team.
The situation is that I have the following teams/skills involved in all projects:
All teams are diverse in terms of where people are based. Therefore, I can't assign one single holiday scheme to e.g. the implementation managers team, but would rather need to set up another dimension to group all project members from UK, from Austria, etc.
How can I set this up so that all employees have their own holidays reflected in the planning tools?
+ is there a possibility to integrate bamboo HR and to sync holidays, vacation, sick leave etc. directly from there?
Thanks in advance!
In ActivityTimeline, a user can be part of multiple teams, so there are flexible ways to organize your setup. To reflect regional holidays for your multinational teams, here’s what I’d suggest:
1. Create Country-Based Groups: Set up Jira groups for each country (e.g., UK, Austria) and link the corresponding holiday scheme to these groups.
2. Add Country Tags to Users and Utilize Functional Teams: You can tag users by their country and then create functional teams that are country-specific.
You can learn more about it here or schedule a demo call and we will help you set it up.
As for Bamboo HR, while ActivityTimeline does not have built-in integration with it, you can leverage ActivityTimeline’s API for custom integrations (technical setup required).

Hi @Denise Wenczel and welcome!
I'm not aware of any native options for easily integrating holidays into Jira from external sources. That's why some years ago my company built an Out of Office Assistant for Jira Cloud of which I'm the product owner. A while back we also added the ability to integrate with any HR systems via REST API.
In Bamboo you would have to request Time Off Requests with this endpoint, and send whatever you get into Jira via the POST rules method.
Some things to be careful with:
If you don't have the technical expertise to go through all this, we'd obviously be happy to help.
Have a great day!
