Issue Detail View - Kanban Board

Stephen Doggette August 14, 2023

Hello.  In working with Jira, what does the "Issue Detail View" from the "Kanban Board" affect when fields are added, deleted or reordered?  I do not understand where those changes are impacting the Jira application after I make them.  Also, what relationship does the "Issue Detail View" here have (if any relationship at all), to the detailed view of issues when viewing or editing those?

THANK YOU in advance for any guidance you can provide.  Please see the following image.  Cheers.

From Trudy's note below ...

I did some experimenting with the Issue Details View under Board Settings and the reviewing the issue view that pops up in the side bar, and I see the same thing as you - the sidebar view appears unaffected by the board settings.

I found this old post from 2018 with a 2019 answer that says these settings applied only to the old issue view. The old issue view has been deprecated and we have now only the "new" issue view.

Hello @Stephen Doggette

The portion of the board configuration you are highlighting impacts the fields that will display in the issue view that opens to the right of the board. This display opens if you have selected "Open issues in sidebar" from the board options.

The only relationship between the Issue Detail View in Board Settings and the view you get when Creating/Viewing/Editing issues that pop up in a dialog or full screen is that in this Board Settings area you can display only fields that are already included in the Field Configuration and Screens for the issues. Making changes in the Board Settings should not have any impact on the other screens.

@Trudy Claspill Hello.  I appreciate your response above.  I am not seeing (in our system) what you are describing above.  If I add/rearrange fields in the Issue Detail View in Board Settings, nothing seems to change in the "sidebar" view.  That sidebar view appears to continue to follow the OTHER issue detail as defined for the issues themselves.

I hope this makes sense.

Question: Do fields in the sidebar view need to be populated before they will show?

Thank you.

@Trudy Claspill Hello and ... thank you, thank you, thank you.  I appreciate you doing the extra digging.  Between Atlassian and Microsoft providing "new features and improvements", it's a wonder any of us get any real work done.  Cheers.
