Every time I create an issue it is automatically placed in the Backlog. Is there a way to have it either default to, or set it at the time of creation, to land in the Ready column?
Better yet, I'd like to have the option to put it in Ready or the Backlog at the time of creation.
I am an admin, so permissions are not an issue.

Consider using automation.
Trigger - issue created
conditions - as needed to only change to ready if appropriate
action - transition to ready
