Is it possible to track time each time when an issue is moved to a particular status

Hello All

We have a ticket, we move it to status "escalated"
we have a field which would capture escalation date based on the move to this status
we have a field which would capture escalation resolved date based on the move to a different status

I imagine that moving it in and out of "escalated" multiple times would over write the start and end dates. If this is the case, using reporting in Jira, is it possible for us to track how many times it went into escalated status, all the dates, and how long it spent at that status each time + overall?

Hi @Lalithesh Channu  👋

Unfortunately, there is no way you can find with native gadget, but you can achieve it with Time in Status add-on by SaaSJet. This tool allows you to view the entire duration of an issue, from the time it was opened until it was closed, with the Time in Status report.

You can also view the Open Ticket Date/Time and Closure Date/Time with the Status Entrance Date report, which displays the date the issue entered each status.

Also you can select three date ranges depending on the dates of creating, updating, or solving issues.

Add-on comes with a 30-day free trial  version and is free for up to 10 users.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
I hope this helps 😊

Hello @Lalithesh Channu ,

In one of my community articles I talked about a problem and a solution that is similar to yours.

If you take a look at that article, you will see that you can apply the same steps for your escalated status.

Hope you benefit from it.

Hi @Lalithesh Channu

As suggested by Rebekka, you would need an app to pull time in status and issue transitions data. If you would be interested in the same, please take a look at

Time in Status Reports

The add-on provides the time in status of the entire issue workflow and there are 20+ reports in the app which help to meet a wide range of use cases.

One of the many reports is the Status Transitions details and time in status as shown below which will help in meeting your requirements.

More details here

Do try it out.

Hello @Lalithesh Channu

You can use Clockwork PRO to get an accurate report using the Worklog attributes feature.

In Clockwork, you can create several Worklog attributes, each a status, and then assign this attribute when the Worklog is created based on the issue status - using automation.

Using the attributes filter, you can get a detailed report of all worklogs for a status when they started and ended, and how many times they transitioned into this status from the number of Worklogs created.

Clockwork also provides automatic timers, so when the issue transitions, the timer starts, capturing the start time.

I am happy to build this automation based on your instance setup, please reach out to us here if this is something that works for you.

Hi @Lalithesh Channu

If you prefer using a marketplace app, you can try Status Time Reports app developed by our team. It mainly provides reports and gadgets based on how much time passed in each status.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try without installing the app.

To get a report of how many times and when the status of each issue is changed, you can have a look at Status Count And Entry Dates report. Entry date(see In Development, Ready for Testing, In Testing, In Development columns.) is status transition date and status count(see #In Development, #Ready for Testing, #In Testing, #In Development columns) is how many times an issue is entered to this status. You can also see how much time passed in each status.

For further details, you can have a look at Status Time Reports How to Videos.

App Features:

  • This app has a dynamic status grouping feature so that you can generate various valuable reports as time in status, time in assignee, status entry dates and status counts, cycle time and lead time, resolution time, average/sum reports by any field(e.g. average in progress time by project, average cycle time by issue creation month).
  • You can search issues by Project, Issue Type, Status, Assignee, Issue Creation/Resolution Date(and any other Date field) and JQL Query.
  • Status durations are calculated according to the working calendar you define. Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days.
  • You can set different duration formats.
  • You can export reports in CSV file format and open them in MS Excel.
  • You can also add this app as a gadget to your Jira dashboards and reach “Status Time” from Issue Detail page.
  • You can enable/disable access to Status Time reports&gadgets and Issue Detail page per project, users, groups or project role.

If you are looking for a completely free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Reports Free.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via support@bloompeak.io or schedule a demo with us.

Hope it helps.

Hi @Lalithesh Channu

your best bet for that type of reporting are Marketplace Apps. There are multiple options: Jira apps | Atlassian Marketplace
