Is it possible to restrict access to view an issue, based on the value in a custom field?

I want to set up a custom field, which based on the value selected, can be used to restrict the visibility of an issue.

I'm not precious as to whether it's a drop down list, a check box or a radio button field.

The idea is that the issue reporter will be able to select 'Confidential' or 'Not confidential', if 'Confidential' is selected then the issue would only become visible to a specific group of users.

Is this possible? I don't need assistance with creating the security group etc. I just need help with whether or not the security of the issue can be updated based on the custom field value.

@Kara Hopkins You can do this with Jira cloud's built-in automation rules.

Go to Project settings > Automation, then create a rule and change the field for the trigger and the security level for the action

You should also think about setting up a second rule for when the field is changed from Confidential to non-confidential, which should clear the security level field value (otherwise if someone accidentally marks an issue as Confidential then changes it back to non-confidential, the issue's permissions will remain restricted)

Thank you so much 😊
