Instructions for Sending and Restoring a Project back up in Jira

Antonio Ruiz December 12, 2024

Hello everyone,

I have downloaded a .zip file containing the back up of my project from the cloud.

My client has asked me to send him this .zip file, so that in the future he can restore it in his Jira account and thus visualise the entire project we have developed.

Could you tell me the steps or the procedure I should follow to send him this backup correctly and make sure that he can restore it in his Jira account?

Thank you in advance

When you say 'project' does that mean your Jira instance? Unless you have a plugin Jira doesn't support backing up one project. If you do mean instance, you also need to backup all the attachments as they are NOT included in the Jira backup.  The native Jira backup covers everything except the attachments.  As for your client, when restoring a Jira backup it REPLACES everything, which means all the current instance will be overwritten and the data deleted. The client will use the restore process. The attachments will need to be uploaded separately and either put in the same file location pointed to in your Jira, or the setup fill will need to be pointed to the new location.

As I said, the native restore will overwrite the current data.

Hello @Antonio Ruiz

As I asked in your earlier post here on this same topic, it would be helpful to us if you explained exactly how you created that zip file.
