Importing Issues from Confluence

Jon Chandra April 17, 2020

Hello there -

Bear with me - I'm still exploring this platform.

I see there's a way to generate issues in Jira Software from Confluence. I also see it's possible in Jira to import issues from CSV.

I would like to be able to import issues in Jira, not from local CSV files, but rather from Confluence. (i.e in Jira Software -> '+' -> Issues -> Import Issues -> Select Confluence location instead of CSV file location stored locally). Is it possible?

Backstory is we have a template of issues that will be reused many times by multiple users. I'm thinking of hosting that template of Issues in Confluence.

Thank you in advance

Hello @Jon Chandra

It is possible by listing the summaries of the issues within a table on a Confluence page, highlighting them and selecting Create Issue.

YouTube Video of the actions to take

There is also some documentation with steps to follow if that is more helpful to you.

Create issues from inside Confluence

You can create issues while viewing a page or from within the editor, letting you use Confluence for planning and gathering requirements.

To create an issue when viewing a page:

  1. Highlight some text on your page and choose the Create Jira issue icon that appears above the highlighted text
  2. Enter your server (if you have multiple Jira sites connected to Confluence), project, issue type, and description
Your highlighted text will populate the issue summary automatically.
  3. Hit Create

The issue will be created in Jira and added to your page. If your text is in a table, you'll have the option to create multiple issues using text from the same column.

Hope this helps,

Danny

The limitation to this would be the fact that you want to reuse the list over and over again. If this is the case, I would suggest you look for a marketplace app to remove or at least reduce the repetitive administration of recreating the same issues over and over.

You could have a look into the following:

I was hoping there would be out of the box solution but ya....I'll take a look at the suggestions in the marketplace you mentioned. Thank you!

I understand, it would be nice to provide a better solution for this use case. I would suggest requesting this as a feature improvement to Atlassian via the support page
