Hi,
I would like to use an excel spreadsheet to automatically pull in 5 to 8 custom fields when a ticket is created. Customer, Account Manager, etc. are housed in a spreadsheet. We have these fields setup in JSM as custom field. We would like to use this excel spreadsheet as the source data and maybe refresh daily all tickets from the source excel spreadsheet. So if the Account Manager changes for a customer and we update the excel spreadsheet to reflect this, then this would automatically update all open tickets for that customer with the new Account Manager. Is this possible?
Or at least when the ticket is originally created to pull in the corresponding field data and auto populate the custom fields for a specific client?
It is possible, but you would need one of the apps that allows your to use external data sources for custom fields. There are multiple ones in the Marketplace, I have used Elements Connect in the past to do this.
Hi @RJ Foltz
I'm not aware of any option to use excel as a source for Jira custom fields.
You can import this information into Assets and you custom fields of type assets to get the data required.
In assets you can upload your CSV, with a script on your end this could be set to a schedule.

Hi Marc, Thanks for reviewing the questions and providing feedback. Can you tell me if there is another tool besides excel that can be used to as an external database as the source data to pull into custom fields?
I've looked at Assets previously and the link provided above. It seems more for tracking physical assets. Can it be used as a database for to populate custom fields?
Thanks,
R.J.

Yes, Assets can be used for any type of data, it is not just for Asset tracking. For example, I use it in our HR project to get different approvers based on departments. Another use case that was presented during Team 24 (24 Hour Fitness was the customer) is to use it for delegation, so if a manager was OO for a period of time they could delegate approvals to someone else while they are out.
There are so many other use cases for Assets as well, like using for storing contracts, software license count, storing marketing material etc.
