How to upgrade AUI (Atlassian UI Plugin) to 3.5+ for Jira 4.4

There's one particular feature in AUI 3.5 - Dialog events (https://studio.atlassian.com/browse/AJS-657), which would be very helpful.

But my Jira is 4.4, so AUI is 3.4.2. Is it possible to upgrade aui to 3.5 or higher? How to do that?

Or may be it's possible to make some sort of patch to add that feature?

It would not be advisable to upgrade AUI beyond the version shipped in a particular product. JIRA 4.4 was tested with AUI 3.4 and jumping to a newer version could do things like update to a version of jQuery which is not compatible with JIRA 4.4 (that is, you could break things!).

You can watch https://developer.atlassian.com/display/AUI/AUI+Version+Matrix to see which versions of each product are scheduled to include an AUI upgrade. Currently JIRA 5.0 is slated for AUI 3.5.
