How to look for open issues for linking while creating a new issue?

MK October 10, 2019

Hey,

when we are trying to create a new issue and link it to another issue in the creation screen, we cant search for all issues. It just gives the ability for Recently Viewed ones. Above the proposed issues it says "Search history".

But when Im editing the same issue after creation and try to link it I can find every open issue in Jira.

Does anybody else have that problem and has a solution for it?

Best regards

Hi @MK

The linked issues field will let you enter any issue key into it - but it only visualises recent issues you were viewing first in the search results, or issues from your last issue search (Current Search).

You can click the "+" button next to the field to show alternative options, including to select issues from a filter. This will show only the first 50 results though, so you'll need a limited set of issues in the filter.

Thanks for the answer Stephen, but that is pretty disappointing because we cant find older issues to link to.

Is there a specific reason why we can only look up recent issues?

It is how the base search works as standard.

As I say, pressing the "+" will allow you to search for issues from a filter - that way, those displayed first are based on your sort order rather than by recent first.

Aside from that you'll need to know the issue key which you're linking to.
