How to automatically move a Service Desk issue to another project?

We have a Service Desk project where users can make requests that create issues. When an issue of a certain type is created, we want that issue to automatically be moved from Service Desk into another project for development. We are not worried about anything like the user losing visibility as this is an internal process and users will have access to both Service Desk and the development project.

 

We want to move issues from Service Desk to only one development project, so the process of moving will be the same each time - in that any differences between issue type, status, workflow, custom fields, etc. will be the same and can be handled in the same way each time. I'm aware of the Move feature for issues that guides you through moving the issue, but we want this process to be automated.

 

What is the best way to handle this? It seems like creating a custom script with something like Power Scripts would work but I'm wondering if there's any other options.

For anyone reading this in 2021: moving issue automatically is tricky and not supported by the Automation rules.

The workaround is described here for Jira Cloud but it should work for server/ DC as well: Move an issue with automation.
