Wilson,

There is not way to achieve this without a plugin.

There are several options out there that could be evaluated.

As a disclaimer I am an employee of the company that sells Abacus, one of the add-ons that could solve this issue.

Some options would include:

Scriptrunner for Jira

Abacus

Jira Misc Custom Fields

I know for a fact all three of these can accomplish it.

There is also Power scripts - Jira Automation. I haven't used that one, but I think it would be able to solve this for you as well.

Hopefully that gives you some directions to look in!
