How can I get an historical count of issues in each status - like the CFD does but in tabular form?

I regard Atlassian and Jira with equal parts admiration and frustrated irritation. This question is in the latter camp.

Someone asked me how to show the number of issues at each status over the last 3 weeks... basically the raw data of a cumulative flow diagram. I can't for the life of me see how it can be done without getting data out of Jira and crunching/rendering it somewhere else. Seems such an obvious ask from an issue tracking tool to see historical positions.

Any ideas I've missed?

Thanks @Nathan Phillips - the two dimensional chart doesn't offer what I need - I've been asked to show the count of all statuses on a given day, going back over several weeks.. effectively what the cumulative flow diagram shows but in tabular form. The 2D chart relies on specific date fields. It's a real gap in Jira.

@Danut M _StonikByte_ thanks - unfortunately the client has no more budget for the marketplace.

I suspect I might end up writing them a little plugin.

Hello @Sean Blezard,

The best way for most users to obtain this type of information through Jira Cloud would be through Dashboards. In this situation, I believe our Two Dimensional Filter Statistics gadget might meet your needs.

This gadget allows you to choose two separate fields, one for the X, and one for the Y axis, to display information in a graph about your Jira site.

As an example, let me provide a demonstration from my site:

  • I created a new JQL query in my site to pull in the issues in my NEWCMP project, created within the last 3 weeks, using the 'createdDate' function:

project = "NEWCMP" and createdDate >= -3w ORDER BY created DESC

  • Then saved this filter so it can be used in my Dashboard.
  • Next, I created a new Dashboard, and chose my newly saved JQL filter, along with the fields 'Status' for my x axis, and 'Assignee' for my y axis:

  • Our new Dashboard will now show us the total number of issues, the status of those issues, and the unique assignees:

If you have Jira Software, there are multiple other great reports to consider like the Control Chart.

I hope this information is helpful!

Hi @Sean Blezard,

Have you already tried the Cumulative Flow Diagram report of Jira? If not, take a look.

If you need something better, then my advice for you is to search on Atlassian Marketplace for an app that provides a better report or a gadget that is capable to provide the info you want.

If you consider the idea of using an app, our Great Gadgets app offers a Cumulative Flow Diagram gadget that is capable to display the number of issues in every status along the time.
