I just want them to appear when I click on the User Story, I don't want them to appear in the backlog. Anyone know how to set this up? thanks.
Hello @Natalia Rodríguez
Welcome to the community.
Are you using a Classic project or a NextGen project?
What exactly do you mean by you don't want them to appear in the Backlog? Do you mean you don't want to see them in the Backlog screen of a Scrum or Kanban board? Do you want to see them on the column-view of the board?
Why do you not want sub-tasks to display? What problem are you trying to solve? Explaining the problem will help us provide you with more relevant options.
If you do not want sub-tasks under a Story to display in the Backlog screen AND don't want those to display on the column-view of your board, you could change the board filter to exclude issues of type "Sub-task"
issuetype not in subTaskIssueTypes()
Hi @Trudy Claspill !
Thanks for answering me but apparently I lacked being more specific:
First of all, I am working on a scrum board.
- In the Jira that I have, I can't find this button to add subtasks within a user story (that's what I really want)….Photos: 1 and 1.1
- When you create subtasks within the user stories, they are only there, if you go to the backlog, you only see the User stories unless you also want tasks to be seen. (photo #2)
In the Jira that I have, I can't find any option to create subtasks inside a user story, so how can I create subtasks inside a user story?
Do you know how I should configure my dashboard so that this option appears?
Could you help me with this, please?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I am confused by your statement that you can't find the button to add subtasks to stories when the image you pasted clearly shows the button and you've drawn an arrow pointing to it.

I attached those images that another person gave me because I don't have that option to create subtasks in my Jira, so I asked if Jira has several versions or how could I do to configure this? I could not find a way to configure that option.
When I click on a user story, it doesn't show me the option to add subtasks.
As you can see in the image, I can only link previously created tasks, there is no option to create them within the user story.

Do any other users have the option to create a sub-task in the same project? If not then there may not be a sub-task type of issue included in the Issue Types available to the project.
An admin for the project can check this by going to Project Settings and selecting Issue Types. A sub-task type issue will show "SUB-TASK" in a box next to the issue type name, like this.
If there is not a sub-task type of issue included in the Issue Types for the project, then a JIRA Admin will need to modify the Issue Types Scheme for the project to make it available.
It may also be necessary to modify other aspects of the project configuration to adjust the fields, screens, or workflow associated with sub-task issues if those need to be different than what is used for other types of issues in the project.

@Trudy Claspill hello!
Please understand me: I want to know where to configure the option to create subtasks within a user story, I don't want to continue creating them in the backlog, I need to have more order in my user stories, so I want to know How to configure that option to create tasks within a user story, I am an admin but I have not found any way to activate that button to create tasks within a user story.

There is a global option that enables/disables sub-tasks. You have indicated that other people can create sub-tasks in other projects in your JIRA environment. Therefore, that global option must already be enabled. A JIRA Admin can confirm that by going to Settings / Issues / Sub-Tasks.
The next level of enablement is based on individual project customizations. To create a subtask in a project:
1. The sub-task issue type must be part of the Issue Type Scheme assigned to the project.
2. There must not be other customizations that block you (individually, or by role, or by group membership) from creating issues in general or from creating sub-tasks specifically. Such a customization could exist through more than one method, such as through workflow customization.
Your previous responses indicate the global option is already turned on, so I am trying to ascertain how your specific project is configured. By asking you about the issue types available in your project, I am trying to determine if the Sub-task issue type is available in your project. By asking whether or not other users can create sub-tasks in the same project, I am trying to determine if there is some other customization in the project that is preventing you, specifically, from creating sub-tasks.

I bet, you have the same problem like me: the subtask appear in your backlog but not with the same status as your story.
That is pretty enological (the story can go to done, but the task are still open).
So the question might be: how to setup that all smaller task inherit the status of the bigger task?
