Extracting JIRA issues into pre-defined word template

Thomas Lindsay July 2, 2014

Hi,

Does anyone know how to extract JIRA issues into a pre-defined word template please?

I just want to extract the key, summary and description data from issues retrieved from a JIRA query into a pre-defined word document.

Any help would be greatly received.

Many thanks,

Hi Thomas,

As far as I know, there is no way to achieve this without customising the system itself.

I believe the article below may provide you a better explanation about this:

Hi Pedro,

I've exported using the standard word functionality, but it exports too much information and not in the format I'm after unfortunately.

I thought another Atlassian member had used VBA code to extract from a JIRA export to Excel as an aid to manipulate the information.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Cheers.

For additional clarity - The reason I want to do this is so that I can communicate requirements (Epics / Stories) out to the business for review. At the moment, I am exporting to excel, then performing an mail merge into word which is quite time consuming. Hence the reason why I'd like to export straight from JIRA into a pre-defined word template.

Does anyone know why you can't just get one license for any of these? I work from home full time as a documentation specialist for my company. I'm the only person in the entire company that needs one of these plugins for generating release notes. I'm even willing to pay a higher price (using my own money). My company has told me they will not pay the volume pricing just so that I alone can use it.

Have a look at PDF View Plugin and Better Excel Plugin as alternatives.

Although none of them supports the Word file format, if the PDF or XLSX formats are also acceptable for you, they are extremely customizable (see 1 and 2), reduces the work of re-generating the output to a single click and can be automated (see 1 and 2) to save you time when re-sending your business documents to the stakeholders. We automated business processes with these with great success.

Hi PMRodrigues,

Thanks for the comments. I've tried using the Xporter plugin, but it had such a dramatic affect on our server performance, that I had to remove it.

Thanks for trying though.

Hi Thomas,

The Xporter for JIRA plugin (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.xpandit.plugins.jiraxporter) is a great solution for you. You can export one or multiple issues in many formats (such as: DOCX, PDF, ODT, SVG or RFT) and you can use sample templates or templates that you can create and define.

Try it now.

Best Regards,

PMRodrigues
