Disable "Connect to preview your links" on Github links in JIRA

Bart Swedrowski November 28, 2019

We use JIRA Cloud and whenever we paste a Github link in any of the comments / story description it - upon view - automatically is trying to preview those links.

It looks like below:

Content content contetn of the commend https://github.com/x/a/blob/master/.ci/scripts/deploy#L192
Connect your account to preview links
.

I tried things like disabling Attachment Previews etc. we definitely don't have Github connected to JIRA - does anyone know how to get rid of those previews? The reformat the content and make it quite confusing to read.

Regards, Bart

Hello @Bart Swedrowski

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Indeed, the message "Connect your account to preview links" displayed when you paste links from non-Atlassian applications in JIRA is a known behavior that is also impacting other customers.

We have created the following feature request to implement the option to remove that warning:

Option to Disable Smart Links For Non-Atlassian Products on New Issue View

Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.

For now, you can use the workarounds provided in the feature request:

In order to remove the Smart link from rendering on the new issue view.

  • Paste the Google link for example, once it renders to preview the link
  • Press Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (MacOS) (this will revert the link to a normal blue link)

Alternative workaround:

  • When inserting the link, be sure to use http:// instead of https://. The Smart Card feature will not be activated, and upon visiting the URL, it will automatically redirect to https:// for these services.

Let us know if you have any questions.
