Custom field in Issues\ Filter view

Dafi Berliner November 17, 2024

Hello,

i've created custom fields of type User Picker (Single Select).

When i'm sing the List view, i'm able to edit these custom-fields directly from the List view (able to hit the cell and the User select list is opened)

when i'm using the Issues\Filter view, the data in this field is displays as a link. i'm not able to edit.

Can someone advise how i can overcome this?

Hi @Dafi Berliner ,

As you've noticed, there are some differences between these two issue views. I would say List view within a project is 'more powerful' when it comes to grid editing.

Here are some feature suggestions on jira.atlassian.com (JAC) you might want to take a look at: project = JRACLOUD AND component = "Issue - View" AND text ~ "user picker" AND statusCategory != Done
I didn't manage to find this specific one but it might be worthwhile to take a second look and adjust the filter if necessary.

You might also want to reach out to Atlassian Support as they can quickly scan through these and, if there's not a request for improvement you're looking for, they might open a new suggestion.

Up until then, you can check these alternative solutions that Humashankar mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi @Dafi Berliner

You're experiencing different behaviors between Jira's List view and Issues/Filter view for custom User Picker fields.

  • The List view allows direct editing by clicking on the cell, whereas the Issues/Filter view displays the field as a non-editable link.
  • This difference is by design, as the Issues/Filter view prioritizes viewing and filtering, while the List view offers enhanced editing capabilities.

For efficient editing, try:

- Using the List view to quickly edit multiple issues at once.

- Opening specific issues from the Issues/Filter view for individual edits.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
