Creating auto-incrementing custom field

John Reynolds June 6, 2017

Hello,

I am looking for some guidance on the best approach to creating a new field that auto increments number based on a previously selected field. This would be specific to one project and not across the entire environment.

Example: I have current field in place called "Warehouse" that holds a list of warehouses. I'd like to create a new field called "Pile #".  When "Warehouse" is selected as "Site-7" I'd like "Pile #" to recognize that this is for example the 4th issue of Warehouse: Site-7 and Pile # would auto-increment to "4".

The value of "Pile #" would be specific to the "Warehouse".  If the next issue created is for "Warehouse" "Site-32" then the next "Pile #" should auto-complete to the next number for "Site-32".

Does this make sense? If so, is this possible to accomplish?

Hi @John Reynolds ,

my suggestion is to create a calculated field provided by ScripRunner.
