Hi Everyone,

We perform the same identical projects for our clients with the same set of tasks. What would be your advice for setting up identical projects in Jira with an overarching program management view. As from what I have seen in my limited time I need to recreate the project each time with out the ability to "copy" it.

Any pointers would be awesome!!

You could create a dummy project with the correct configuration and then everytime you need to create a new project use the dummy project as shared configuration

Hi @Daniel Hosking

It sounds like you're looking for a streamlined way to replicate projects within Jira without the hassle of setting up everything from scratch each time.

I would like to introduce you to our app Deep Clone for Jira. With Deep Clone, you can clone entire projects, issues, and configurations in just a few clicks. Cloning template projects is a very common use case for Deep Clone, and my colleague @Marlene Kegel - codefortynine even wrote a community article about how she used Deep Clone in her previous job to clone template projects.

Some benefits of using Deep Clone include:

  1. Clone Projects: Not just issues, but entire projects can be cloned, including their configurations.
  2. Preserve Hierarchy: Deep Clone will keep the hierarchy of your tasks intact, so sub-tasks and issue links can be cloned along with their parent issues.
  3. Customization: You can choose to clone attachments, comments, and even select which fields to clone or exclude, giving you full control over the cloning process.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out!

Hi @Daniel Hosking

creating the same identical projects with the same set of tasks and getting an overview of the created projects is something that can only be partially achieved with native Jira.

There exists the 'Create with shared settings' checkbox that you can choose when creating a project. This checkbox allows to create the project with shared project schemes (workflow scheme, issue type scheme...) but that is kind of it.

There are many more things that you'll likely want to recreate and therefore we've built an app solution for it. Project Templates for Jira

On top of the shared project schemes, the app allows to clone or predefine:

Project lead, project category, default Assignee, project role assignment, components, versions & issues.

can this shared settings check box be set after the project is already created?
