Comparing Company-Managed Project Differences Between Two Jira Accounts

Muhammad Azmi Adhani October 9, 2023

Hello fellow Jira Software users,

I've encountered some intriguing differences between two of my Jira accounts, particularly in the context of company-managed projects. I wanted to share these disparities with you and seek your insights and experiences.

Account 1:

  • In my first account, company-managed project's backlog issues have a status dropdown menu, allowing me to change the issue status directly from the backlog view.
  • There is a right-click menu available for backlog issues, offering various options for quick actions.
  • The version and epic filter are positioned at the top of the screen for easy access and filtering.

Account 2:

  • In contrast, in my second account, company-managed project's backlog issues do not feature a status dropdown menu, making it necessary to navigate into the issue to modify its status.
  • Additionally, there seems to be a lack of a right-click menu for backlog issues in this account, which limits the available options for managing issues directly from the backlog view.
  • The version and epic filter are located on the side of the screen, altering the user interface and potentially affecting the workflow.

Image Comparison: I've included an image to illustrate some of these differences visually, providing a clearer picture of the variances between the two accounts:

  1. Status Dropdown

    • Account 2Screenshot 2023-10-09 at 17.21.50.png
  2. Right click menu on backlog issues

  3. Filter menu and backlog sprint

Now, I'm curious to hear from the Jira community:

  1. Have you encountered similar differences between your Jira accounts or within your team's Jira instances?
  2. Do you know if these disparities are a result of specific settings, permissions, or configurations that can be adjusted?
  3. Are there any tips or tricks you can share for optimizing the use of company-managed projects, especially in scenarios where such differences exist?

I appreciate any insights or guidance you can provide as I aim to make the most of my Jira experience and streamline project management in both of my accounts.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards, Muhammad Azmi Adhani

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I'm pleased to report that I was able to resolve my issue. It turns out that the difference in the board and backlog view was indeed related to the 'Enhance my board and backlog' option, which can be found in the Board actions menu.

This changes available when this is enabled are relatively new feature, as described here.

I found a helpful solution in this thread: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/How-to-show-issue-status-on-backlog/qaq-p/2145996#M294084.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Hi @Muhammad Azmi Adhani

From a glance, it appears that this is permission related.

Do you have the manage sprints permission in the second project and/or admin for the second project? Depending on how the permission scheme is setup there.

I've tested on my own sandbox and I can see all of the options that you have in Account 1 normally, but I'm also the project admin and sprint manager.

You are definitely able to change status in the second account issues correct? Would it be possible to see the workflow? (Please sanitize/censor any sensitive information before posting here).

Kind Regards,

Ash

Hi Ash,

Thank you for your quick response and insights.

Yes, I have administrative privileges for both accounts, including the second account. I've checked my permissions, and I do have the "manage sprints" permission in the second project.

Here's the workflow I'm currently using for both accounts, which is the default Jira workflow:

Account 1 Workflow:

Account 2 Workflow:

I appreciate your assistance in helping me troubleshoot this issue. Let me know if there's any other information or details you'd like to see, and I'll be happy to provide it.

Kind Regards, Azmi
