Chose between jira Software or Jira Core

Joseph Crist May 4, 2018

Hello,

We wish to use Jira alongside Service Desk. Is Service Desk available with Core or can it only be used with Software?

The documentation for Jira Software explains that it will integrate with Bitbucket. Will Jira Core Server also integrate with Bitbucket Server or is Jira Software required to utilize this feature? Also, same question but for Confluence?

Assuming Core will integrate with Bitbucket/Confluence, please explain the limitations of integrating Core with Bitbucket/Confluence.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,

You can use Core with Jira Service Desk, and Core integrates with Confluence. There aren't limitations on what Core vs Software will do with Confluence.

Jira Software is needed to make use of Bitbucket integration. The DVCS plugin (used for Bitbucket, Github, etc) is bundled with Jira Software. I believe you can use Jira as a directory server for Bitbucket with just Core but you won't get any of the feature integrations with branches, pull requests, etc.

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Joseph,

Quick addition to Daniel's reply: Software will also help a lot if you want to run an Agile project (it bundles Scrum/Kanban features).

Hope this helps!
