I am looking to export fields filled out in a Jira form into a Word doc. This is info that is filled out in both the Jira form and Word, and I would like to get rid of the double handling.
My best thought is to export it using a Jira API and using a Microsoft Word add in to inject the info.
Any suggestions in the right direction would be great! :)
Hi @josh kruik and welcome to the Community!
To go a step further: to get rid of the double handling, can't you get rid of Word? Not that I have anything against Word (if used for its proper intent - to write documents - it's a very convenient tool), but I really don't see its positioning as (part of) a workflow application ... Curious to hear more about Word ends up in your overall process and why you would need it in your overall workflow.
If I had to integrate data from Jira into Word, I think I would use Jira's built-in export to Excel features and use Microsoft's native Word merge features to pull fields from the exported Excel file into my document(s).
Hope this helps!
Thanks for your help gents, but I am looking to only export specific fields from a jira issue - not just a plain export of everything. The data is entered into an assessment form.
I might try that excel option thanks Walter, or power automate, or similar to this one: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Create-Word-Document-based-on-Jira-Issue-using-the-Jira-API/qaq-p/2169932 Cheers.

Hey @josh kruik, you can export Jira forms to PDF with the Better PDF Exporter! They can be exported along with other issue fields:
As PDF is a standard widely-used file format, Word and other external tools should not have problems with importing it for further processing.
(Discl. this is a paid and supported app developed by our team. Free for 10 users!)
