We have a requirement and the hierarchy is demostrated below.
Change Request/CR - [Root Task]
PBI - [Next level task]
SBI -[Subtask]
A CR can have n number of PBIs. A PBI can exist independently or within a CR. Further SBI can only be present within a PBI and no independant SBIs can be created.
So according to the requirement we would want to use subtask feature of jira where in we make PBI as the main issue type and sbi as its subissue type to take care that no independent sbi's be created and moreover an sbi can be created using the parent pbi.
Now to tackle the requirement wherein a pbi can exist in CR, we cannot extend the subtask feature in jira as it allows only one level of subtask creation. So making the PBI exist within CR we thought of using structure feature.
So the question is that is there any impediment you forsee if we do this way? Can this be achieved?
Jayashree, sub-tasks can be used alongside with Structure. You might want to install sub-tasks synchronizer, so JIRA sub-tasks are automatically added to the correct position in the structure - see https://wiki.almworks.com/x/lQBg
