Can I hide the 'story points' field for all projects?

When we create an issue in any project we have two similar fields that are confusing people; the first is Original Estimate and the second is Story Points.

We need to keep the Original Estimate field visible as we use reports that pull the data from that field but I would like to hide the Story Points field as we don't want people using it.

As an Administrator, I have set up all our projects to use the same screen scheme and I'd like to apply this change to all of our projects i.e. I don't want to have to go into every single project to remove this field vis Project Settings, I want the change to be implemented to all of our projects using Admin Settings.

Any ideas how I can hide this field in all projects?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi @Rachel Copeland,

If your projects are indeed using the same screen scheme - as you say - they are also using the same screens. It should be enough to remove the story points field from the screens associated with those screens.

In addition, if you want to ensure the field does not reappear, you can also hide it through the field configuration. Check which field configuration your projects use through Project settings > Fields. This is most likely the Default Field Configuration. Edit that configuration, locate the story points field and click hide to make it no longer visible.

That second step is more drastic than the first, so if you decide to go for that option, make sure to document that change somewhere. If you would ever like to start using story point estimates - you'll probably need to undo that change ;-)

Hi @Walter Buggenhout

Thank you very much for the helpful advice.  I still can't locate the Story Points field by editing the screens (it just doesn't appear in the list) but I have now managed to do this by editing the field configuration.

Your assistance is much appreciated.

this is an issue that seems it's impossible to resolve.
no way to hide story points from individual issues it seems
some choices from Atlassian are poor
