Can I change the default link type from "Cloned to" to "Relates to"?

Christian Beck September 1, 2011

Background: We would like to see the "Clones / is cloned by" link type only appear when the link was established in the context of cloning an issue.

When the user links an issue to another already existing issue, she should not be able to select "Clones/is cloned by" or at least this option should not be the default in the link issue dialog.

Is there any way to control the list of available link types in the "Link Issue" dialog, and change the order/default?

Thank you,

Christian Beck

Thank you, the hint that this list is ordered alphabetically helped to mitigate the problem to an acceptable level. I just put an '*' prefix for the link type name "*Relate", and now it is no. one. Thank you very much!

Hi Christian.

Unluckily this feature is not included in JIRA now.

I had raised an improvement ticket on this:-

jira-application.properties has: jira.clone.linktype.name = Cloners.

Also, JIRA Clone-Plus plugin (1.1.0) has some customization support to allow different clone operations to have different link types.

@khongming.kokSomehow I can't vote your ticket. Does anyone already have the answer?

I think there is no default as such - JIRA just lists the links in alphabetical order of Link Name.

So to get the link you want at the top of the list you'll need to ensure the link name is the first alphabetically eg '*Related Issues' or 'aaRelated Issues' and make sure 'relates to' is in the outward description.

Hi Bob,

thank you. Unfortunately, this does not really solve my problem. The plugin seems not to help here, since it is about the 'clone' function. My question relates to the 'link' function. When a user selects to link an issue to another issue, he is currently offert to assign the default link type "Cloned to", which I want to replace with "relates to" while restrict the "cloned to" type to the 'clone' function. So I want to keep the 'cloned to/from' link type in the configuration, so that it is automatically used as link type in context of the clone operation. But I want to remove it or at least make it not default in the dialog that opens up when a user selects to 'link' an issue.
