Calculating average elapsed time for issue status

I need to calculate the average time in days the issues stay in Open Status for a particular project something like : Total number of days ( resolutionDate - creationDate ) / Total number of issues

Please can you suggest the best way of doing this in JIRA

We recently released a plug-in that mesures time between status. I think Time in Status will solve your problem.
