Automation to create repeating task on epic creation

Hi there, I've been trying to figure out how to create a group of tasks every time an epic is created. So to give you a real world example:

User creates request for a website from our JSD. The request is an Epic.

As soon as the request is created I'd like the automation rule to create a set of related tasks connected to this epic.

The tasks are always the same and here is an example

GDOR/Cookie notice (creates request for legal office to create cookie banner text and gdor notice)

I can't see how to do this, is it possible?

I use A4J for this very use case. Where are you stuck? Below is a screenshot (partial) of what I am doing.

Hi Jack, thanks for replying.

So I can see that would create a new task but what I need is to create a series of tasks but the description of the tasks would always be the same. This is the bit I can't figure out. Unless I create a specific issue type matching the task. So iàoudl have a Issue type called Cookies/GDPR and another called for example Google Analyitcs.

sorry i'm not following. If you are trying to create a set of tasks under an epic whenever an epic is create then you would simply trigger on an Epic being create then create each task and and ensure the Epic link is set to the trigger issue.

Epic - Create me a website about Elephants

  • task 1 - Cookies/GDPR
  • task 2 - Google Analytics
  • task 3 - Do this

Can you share a screenshot of your current attempt that is not working?

Note my screenshot was simply a small excerpt. here is an extended view (it keeps going for awhile).

Hi, yes thats right but the task should exist already somewhere or somehow, so that I don't have to write them out each time. @Andrew Laden suggestion seems to be a solution but I'm wondering if I can use the Issue Template add-on with Automation to achieve this task.

Was just chatting with the Issue Template developers. If you use their "copy" functions (as opposed to the "autocomplete" ones, you should be able to use Automation to create the issue from template. Create the issue, and set the template value on the create, then when the issue is created, the Issue Templates post function will copy everything from the template and create subtasks etc.

You can also look at the Issue Template add-on which you can use to create a set of issues from a template.
