I have automation that creates sub-tasks when a component is added to a story. I want to delete sub-tasks when a component is removed, is. Is there a way to do it?

Hi @Varun Reddy Jonnalagadda -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The delete issue action deletes the "current issue", in scope at that point in a rule.  Perhaps try branching to the specific subtask you want to remove and then use that action.  If this is unclear, please post an image of your complete rule as that may provide context for the community to help.

And please note that with Jira Cloud, there is no "undo" when issues are deleted.  If you believe there is a chance the delete could happen in error, consider disabling the "delete issue" permission for your project and use a resolution, status, or custom field to mark the issue as "abandoned" instead.  This could remove it from viewing/reporting, while remaining recoverable.

Kind regards,
Bill

Hello Bill, Ive tried implementing your suggestion with a branch, but it does not work: {7EA01307-DCE8-4CC1-82B8-8E58A500964B}.png

I want to make an automation that is triggerd manually to delete all subtasks from a story.

Can you help?

Hi @Nathalie Kaspers -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

As this is a very old thread, I recommend creating a new question.  That will ensure the maximum number of people see it to offer suggestions.

And when you create you new question, please include:

  • an image of your complete rule
  • images of any relevant trigger, conditions, actions, and branches
  • an image of the audit log details showing the rule execution
  • explain what is not working as expected

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi @Fabian Lim , Thanks for sharing the link! The automation I have runs on a story, so when I add "delete issue," it deletes the story. I want to delete the sub-tasks on the referring story instead.
