Automation Help based on Datetime

JayJuan Jones May 1, 2024

I am looking to write an automation to copy the value of one of my customfields into the comments section, but I don't want to add the comment if its already been added. Any idea how I can accomplish this with automation?

my current jql is here:

"Rally Project Name[Short text]" IS NOT EMPTY

what could I possibly add to make sure that I am not updating the same field after the first run? This query returns about 1100 issues so I would need to run it twice at least.

Is there a way using a JQL condition to check if there has been a comment added from Automation? If so, what would that look like?

Hey @JayJuan Jones

the easiest way accomplishing this is just activating the checkbox "Avoid duplicates by adding this comment only once to a particular issue". This checkbox should appear right under the comment field in the automation action "comment on issue" (see screenshot).

Cheers Frank

P.S.: In case this doesn't work for you, you can always run a comparison on all comments on an issue by iterating over them...However let's try the simple approach first ;)
