Attempted to start sprint, but error saying 'another sprint active' displays

The previous sprint has been closed and is showing data in reports.  The next sprint has the available 'Start Sprint' button, but when clicking it, it displays an error saying another sprint is 'active' currently.

verify that indeed no sprints are open using this JQL - project = myproject and and Sprint in openSprints().  Replace myproject with the project(s) associated w/ you board. Are any issues returned?

Welcome to the community.

Can you make sure that you don't have an another board that include a sprint with issue that appear in your backlog.

Do you have the feature parallel sprints enable ?

I do not have that enabled; i think possibly renaming sprints could have affected something across two projects.
