Atlassian user and Insight user objects

Currently have AD syncing users into Insight. Except this does not seem right because it is the Atlassian's users within our Jira Service Management project that have the request/s associated to them.

Do I now need to link these Insight user objects with Atlassian user?

Or is there a way to link Atlassian users into Insight?
