Anonymous Access Not Working

Heather Barnes October 25, 2024

I'm following the below steps and it's still not working. When clicking the link, it makes them login or sign up. Any ideas? What link do I provide to the public?

Enable or disable anonymous access to Jira Cloud projects

  1. Choose Settings ().

  2. Choose IssuesPermission schemes.

  3. Click permissions for the permission scheme of the project that you want to enable or disable anonymous access for.

Anonymous access to view and search for issues in a project

  • To allow users to view and search for issues in a project without logging in, add Public to the Browse Project permission in the permission scheme for the project.

  • To make sure anonymous users can't view issues in a project, verify that the Browse Project permission is only granted to existing project roles, groups, users, or Any logged-in user.

To make a Jira project publicly accessible without requiring a login, you need to allow anonymous access in the project’s permission scheme. Here’s a simplified version of the process:

  1. Go to Settings > Issues > Permission schemes.
  2. Select the permission scheme for your project.
  3. Add Public to the Browse Project permission to allow people without accounts to view the project.

Make sure the permission is correctly set, but also note:

  • If the link still asks for login, check if the permission is saved properly.
  • Use the direct project link or issue filter link for sharing,

Even with this setup, if users are still prompted to log in, it may be due to other project settings or restrictions at the site level that override this permission. There is a permission helper, which will also help you why this permission isn't working, you can also figure it out yourself by using this "Permission Helper"

Thank you! I did do the Permission Helper and came up with the one error. Do you know how I can fix this? Also, so I cannot share the entire project link (with all of our items), I have to share one "card" at a time?
