Always show the assignee icon on subtask

Bjarke Kragh February 10, 2021

Hi

I am setting up Jira to be used for the first in our company. How is possible to always have the assignee icon visible on subtask when looking at them from the story? Do I really need to go into the subtask it-self and then assign. (Note: Once I have navigated directly to the subtask then the assignee icon will show up for that subtask when looking at it from a story)

Thank you for your replies in advance

Bjarke

Please follow changes in System in Jira settings, General Configuration, Advanced settings, and the property jira.table.cols.subtasks

Hi Pramodh

Thank you for your repsonse.

However if I do the same settings as you it is not showing the assignee icon when looking at the subtask from story level. It will show once I have navigated to the subtask and go back to the story level then I can see the assignee icon. But I would like to be able to create subtask at story level and at same time assign a person to the newly create subtask.

May I ask - if you create a subtask from the story will you have the assignee icon showing ?  (It should be showing as unassigned)

Yes, by default it will be unassigned, as you have only the option to create the sub-task with a summary field.

The default assignee options are either unassigned or project lead.

It will take based on what you have set in the project default.

We don't have an option of choosing the assignee while creating the sub-task on the story issue type page.

Thanks,
Pramodh

Hi Pramodh,

Okay sorry maybe I was not really clear on my request. Please see my attached photo. There you can see that in story view I can see multiple subtask. The first subtask has an assignee icon associated. That icon only appeared when I first navigated to the actual subtask and went back to the story view again. As you can see some of the below substask does not have the assignee icon. Why is the icon only appearing on the table view after you have navigated to the subtask and gone back again? I would like to have the icon appearing as soon as I have created the subtask by typing in the summary. Because if the icon is there then I can press the icon and assign the subtask to someone directly from the Story view.

As I said earlier, we don't have an option of choosing the assignee while creating the sub-task on the story issue type page.

Pramodh,

The request from Bjarke Kragh was not to assign automatically, but display icon with assignee even if subtask is "Unassigned". It will simplify assignment a lot.

Hi Bjarke - I don't think there is a way to change how sub-tasks are displayed from the parent task, unfortunately.  You could probably use components or an automation rule to assign automatically, but no easy way to change sub-task data in line from a parent task.

Having said that you could try playing around with this setting:
