Allow Automation to transition when condition set for users

I have a condition set that only the reporter or a Tester can close a bug, we wanted to add an automation rule to close certain bugs with a field populate but due to the condition only allowing the reporter to close the automation rule fails. 

is there a way of adding the automation user to the condition or to a user group?

Refer to Transition an issue with automation . At the end of the page, it states the following;

The Automation app user rule actor cannot be added to these user groups. You will need to configure any transition conditions with project roles in order to provide the appropriate permissions. By default, the automation rule actor is in the atlassian-addons-project-access role.

You could give that a try.
