Adding progress bar of subtasks on story

Jérémy Blondeau June 10, 2024

Hello,

I'm pretty new using Jira other than created tickets and light management.

I am in standard plan, in company manage project

My team and I would love to see the % done of sub-tasks as information next to the story  name. I found lot of completion stuff but nothing display when I select it.

Trying to search for more information on net but didn't find or didn't understand if it's fitting my issues.

Please find screen shots what I have below.

Waiting for your help

Welcome to the community, @Jérémy Blondeau 👋

Unfortunately, it's not possible (today) to display progress in the form of a progress bar. However, Jira supports adding a custom/generic Number field. You won't be able to specify that it's a percentage field. But you can give it a name, like Percent Complete.

That said, the underlying question is how you will fill in that field. Are you using hour or story point estimates at the start of the project? Are your assignees using time tracking or some other form of recording work completed?

Best,

-dave

Hello @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_ ,

Thanks for your response. We are using story point.
So if I understood well, I can add Cunstom Field with a calculation based on the story point ?

How you do that magic trick ?

You'll want to use Atlassian Automation for that, @Jérémy Blondeau. I'm no expert in that regard, so I can't show you the magic trick 😉

I suggest you start with the link above and, if needed, post a question in the Automation group here in the community for assistance.

Best of luck to you,

P.S. I just came across this article, and even though the use case is different from yours, I bet you can follow it for guidance with respect to your use case.

Hi @Jérémy Blondeau

Welcome to our Community.

It's not supported to show sub-task completion % just through story swimlane in the active sprint board. We can see that from the story issue detail page.

Thanks

Hi @Jérémy Blondeau

welcome to the community!

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, for but putting it out there in case it might be interesting: If you're open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. It also comes with a range of advanced features, including support for (configurable) issue hierarchies, issue grouping by any issue field(s), sum-ups, or conditional formatting.

With these, you can model a view like e.g. this in just a couple of clicks:

story-point-percentage.gif

This is really just one of a virtually endless number of possible views and reports - you can also view, group by, and sum up any other issue field(s), configure different sum-up styles, etc. etc.

Any questions just let me know,

Best,

Hannes
